As I started writing about things that are not related to science fiction in The Longo Review, I asked myself, “why should anyone care?” Why should you care what “I” have to say about anything?
One of the things that I believe is most missing in western counties in 2021 is some good old critical thinking. Too many people accept whatever they read online, watch on TV or YouTube as absolute truth. It isn’t. Nothing I write here is an absolute truth as far as an opinion goes. Facts, however, are facts, and we shouldn’t ignore them.
Everyone has a different perspective on things. It comes from having different life experiences and backgrounds. That is a good thing as long as you are willing to listen to what other people have to say and consider if it makes sense. It might not, but it might do so in some instances.
My intent in The Longo Review is to provoke people to think about stuff. I ask questions or comment on things with my perspective. I am not trying to talk to a large audience that thinks exactly as I do. I am also not trying to convince anyone to change their opinion to match mine. I am trying to get people to “think” about the information they are getting and what it actually means.
From personal experience, I know that we are prone to consider things in light of our background and what we consider to be “true,” without questioning if the information is legitimate or not, whether or not if the possible consequences that are presented make sense or not. It was only when reality hit me in the face when I was already over 40 years old, and I realized that we needed to question and search for more information.
So… why should you care about what I have to say on anything?
The long answer is that it will give you a different perspective on relevant issues, facts, and events and hopefully help you think critically about them.
The short answer is that I really don’t care if anyone, in particular, gives a damn. I write for the personal satisfaction of doing my part in fostering discussion.

The Lighthouse pictures in this column sometimes have a meaning and sometimes not.
This particular one really spoke to me as it shows a lighthouse standing in the middle of a furious sea. That is how a lot of people these days, and one of the goals of this column is to shine the light on the fact that more people in the world engage in critical thinking.
